An anonymous tip led to the arrest of a right-wing social media influencer who posted videos of himself participating in the January 6 Capitol riot.
William Kit, better known online as "Semore Views," was charged with disorderly conduct, entering and remaining in a restricted building, and demonstrating or picketing in a Capitol building.
Kit's musings on patriotism and politics have earned him a large following on social media.
After court documents in the case were made public this week, The Daily Beast and WUSA reported on Kit's arrest. WUSA reported that the DC man was released on a personal recognizance bond after his initial appearance in court.
Videos on Kit's Semore Views channel show him in front of a mob of Trump supporters, facing off against law enforcement officers.
Do you want to die for this? Kit can be heard yelling. We are going to die for this.
Kit filmed himself going into the Senate Wing. He can be heard asking where the politicians are. The Capitol is going to be taken over by us.
Kit was seen exiting the building through a broken window on closed-circuit television.
Kit was working at a convenience store in Maryland when he was first interviewed by a DC Metropolitan Police officer. The FBI received a tip about videos on Kit's "Semore Views" YouTube page in December of 2021. Kit, who was pictured wearing an "I am Semore Views" shirt, and an American flag bandana, was identified by investigators.
Kit did not reply immediately.
More than 300 people have pleaded guilty to their roles in the Capitol riot.
