The New York Yankees traded pitcher Jordan Montgomery to the St. Louis Cards in exchange for Harrison Bader.

The Yankees will receive a player to be named later or cash considerations in the deal, which was struck just before the trade deadline.

Montgomery has been one of the top performers for the Yankees over the past two seasons, posting a 3.77 earned run average in over 300 appearances. In his last eight outings, he was 0-6 with a 5.36 earned run.

Montgomery was surprised to be traded.

He said that he doesn't think he's ever done the way he should. I think I was a better player than I've ever shown.

He has been out since June 26 because of a foot problem. In 72 games this season, he had five homers and a.300 batting average. Last year, he won a gold glove.

Brian Cashman said that Harrison Bader is one of the best center-field defenders in the game. He gives us lots of lanes.

He was a fan of the Yankees and grew up in Bronxville, New York. He is a graduate of a Bronx school.

With Steven Matz currently on the injured list, Montgomery will be an important pitcher for the team. The Pittsburgh Pirates traded Jose Quintana to the St. Louis.

He left New York a day after the acquisition of Montas.

John Mozeliak is the president of baseball operations for the Cards. We were getting inconsistent out of our rotation.

Once he comes off the IL, Bader will join the Yankees and will likely take some playing time away from the struggling AA outfielder, who has struggled so far this season, hitting.230/.353/.330.

After the 2023 season, both Montgomery and Bader are free to sign with any other team.

On Tuesday, Austin Allen was traded from Oakland to St. Louis.

Allen was 1 for 14 with the A's this season and.270 with five homers and 26 runs for Las Vegas. In 12 starts and seven relief appearances for Class A Palm Beach, Guarate is 4-5 with a 4.18 earned run average.
