The U.S. Treasury imposed sanctions on the head of a pro-Kremlin media holding company who has been rumored to be Russian President Vladimir Putin's girlfriend.

The U.K. and the European Union have imposed sanctions on her.
The New York Times reported that the U.S. officials considered sanctioning Kabaeva earlier this year.
Putin has denied dating Kabaeva. According to the Wall Street Journal, Kabaeva is believed to be his girlfriend and mother to at least three of his children. They are thought to be in Switzerland. Kabaeva is one of the most decorated athletes in the history of the sport having won two Olympic medals and placed in 14 World Championships.
