San Diego Padres first baseman Eric Hosmer, who earlier rejected a trade to the Washington Nationals as part of the Juan Soto deal, is now going to the Boston Red Sox.
As part of the deal, San Diego will be paying down a significant portion of Hosmer's contract, sources said.
According to sources, Hosmer was going to be part of the Padres' package to acquire the Nationals, but he wouldn't remove Washington from his no-trade list.
Hosmer is hitting.272 with eight home runs. He is due $7 million for the rest of the season and $13 million annually for the next eight years as part of his contract with the Padres.
The first baseman has played for the Kansas City Royals for seven seasons and has a career batting average of.279.
The Hosmer deal was reported by the San Diego Union- Tribune.
