The father of one of the children killed in the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre slammed Alex Jones as "cowardly" after the far-right conspiracy theorist didn't show up in a Texas courtroom to testify.
It's disrespectful. Neil Heslin said that it was a "cowardly act of Alex Jones not facing him here in this courtroom."
Heslin said that Jones has not had the courage to face him at this time.
Jones' lawyer told the court that Jones might not be able to attend the trial due to a medical condition.
The parents of Jesse Lewis, who was killed in the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, have sued Jones and his company for defamation.
Jones told his audience that the shooting was a hoax staged by the government.
A lawyer for the parents said in court that Heslin and Lewis had been harassed by followers of Jones for a long time.
Heslin told the jury that he had been through a "living hell" because of the "negligence and recklessness" of Alex Jones.
He said that two years ago someone shot at his house.
Heslin said that his life had beenThreatened. I fear for my safety and my family's safety.
Heslin said that Alex Jones' apologies are useless.
Heslin wanted monetary damages because Jones' words are insincere and he wants this to serve as a deterrent so he doesn't spread lies.
He told them not to turn around and say they're sorry and do what they did before.
He said that Jones had a very strong voice.
Heslin said that the trial was the only way he could restore his credibility.
Jones was found liable for defamation by the Texas court and a court in Connecticut for his depiction of the massacre.
Jones is being sued for $150 million in damages by Heslin and Lewis.
