The 6 p.m. is just hours away. The San Diego Padres seem to be the front-runner in the Juan Soto sweepstakes.

According to Barry Svrluga of the Washington Post, there is a "growing sense" that the Padres will land the All-Star and possibly get Josh Bell in the same package from the Washington Nationals.

Jon Heyman of the New York Post said that the Padres are being aggressive in their pursuit of Bell.

The Padres have made a big move that shows they want to win in 2022. The Milwaukee Brewers traded All-Star closer Josh Hader to them on Monday.

At least two other players are included in the Padres' offer to Washington for Soto and Bell.

The top prospect in San Diego is off to a slow start in his big-league debut. He is hitting.320 in 46 games this season.

Hassell is a 21-year-old baseball player. In 75 games at High-A Ft., the 20-year-old has an..846 OPS. This is Wayne's season.

Morejon had Tommy John surgery. In six relief appearances for the Padres this season, the left-handed pitcher has a 6.75ERA.

There have been conflicting reports about who is in charge of the negotiations.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have been more aggressive with their offers to the Nationals.

The St. LouisCardinals were mentioned as a strong suitor.

One unnamed team executive called Washington's asking price for Soto completely asinine and ridiculous.

There's no reason for Washington to not seek the biggest possible return since things have changed over the course of seven days.

He is one of the best hitters in baseball. He can become a free agent after this season, but he has two more years of team control.

San Diego is trying to get Bell The 29-year-old is a first baseman for the team. He is having the best season of his career with a.307/.384/.493 slash line with 14 homers.

Eric Hosmer was not dealt by the Padres during the off-season. The Athletic's Dennis Lin, Ken Rosenthal and Andy McCullough reported in April that Hosmer and Chris Paddack would have been traded to the New York Mets for Dominic Smith.

It's an indication that San Diego's front office has been trying to upgrade the first baseman for a while.

According to Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune, Hosmer is not going to be traded.

Time is running out for teams to upgrade their rosters for the stretch run. In 101 games this season, the two-time All-Star is hitting.246/.408/.485 with 21 homers and 46RBI.

The Padres currently trail the Dodgers by 12 games in the NL West, but have a two-game lead over Philadelphia in the wild-card race.
