John 'Yogi' Hughes, Celtic's Lisbon Lion and the eighth highest scorer in the club's history with 189 goals, passed away after a short illness.

John 'Yogi' Hughes passed away at the age of 78.

Hughes didn't play in the Lisbon Lions team that beat Inter Milan in the European Cup final. He received a medal for playing in previous rounds.

He was a regular at Celtic Park until recently as a match-day host.

John "Yogi" Hughes died peacefully in hospital on Monday after a short illness, according to a family statement. His family was by his side.

He was loved and will not be forgotten. His family and loved ones always remembered and celebrated with love.

As long as there is a Glasgow Celtic, he will join the ranks of those who will be immortality.

During his 12 years at Celtic, John established himself as an all-time great in the green and white Hoops. He was one of only 29 players to have scored over a century of goals for Celtic.

The whole Celtic Family will mourn the passing of John "Yogi" Hughes, who was popular among the Celtic support.

In 1965, Hughes played in the Scottish Cup final, where Jock Stein won his first trophy as Celtic manager, and Hughes hit two penalties in a victory over Rangers.

In 1970, Hughes scored in Celtic's European Cup semi-final victory overLeeds and in 1965, he hit five goals in a game against Aberdeen.

Billy Hughes joined his brother at Crystal Palace in 1971 and went on to play for the team. He was the manager of Stranraer.
