  • Donald Trump should be in prison for the rest of his life, said the daughter of a January 6 rioter.

  • Guy Reffitt was sentenced to seven years in prison for his role in the insurrection.

  • The longest sentence handed out in relation to the US Capitol riot was this one.

The daughter of a man sentenced to 7 years in prison on Monday for taking part in the January 6 insurrection told reporters that the former president should be locked up for the rest of his life.

Guy Reffitt was the first person to be convicted for taking part in the riot. According to prosecutors, Reffitt's actions that day, storming Congress in tactical gear, with an alleged aim of attacking members of Congress, constituted domestic terrorism.

He received a 7 year sentence on January 6. More than 800 people have been charged in connection with the attempt to overturn the results of the 2020 election.

After Reffitt was sentenced, his daughters spoke to the media and argued that it wasn't fair for their father to get such a long prison term.

When someone is able to get elected again, and my dad is marked as this horrible person, what is the point of prosecuting him? Sarah Reffitt said that it didn't seem right to her.

If my father is in prison for this long, then Trump should be in prison for the rest of his life.

The witnesses have been asked to speak about the actions of the former president. Although no US president has ever been charged with a crime while in office, legal experts say that Trump could be charged with trying to obstruct an official proceeding of Congress.
