According to Jack Curry of the YES Network, the Oakland A's are trading their starting pitcher and relief pitcher to the New York Yankees.

According to Curry, Oakland will receive five minor league pitchers and a second baseman.

The Yankees finalized a deal for Scott Effross on Monday.

Oakland's teardown is continuing. The A's already dealt Matt Chapman, Sean Manaea and Chris Bassitt, so it was only a matter of time before Montas followed them.

The 29-year-old is due to become a free agent after the 2023 campaign. With his team at the bottom of the American League West, keeping him through the trade deadline was not practical.

Montas put together a strong campaign that will help the A's in the long run.

He gave up five earned runs in a 9-5 loss to Philadelphia on opening day. It is an outlier. The right-handed pitcher has a 3.18ERA and a 3.36FIP through 19 appearances.

Montas has gotten a lot of hitters to swing at stuff that is out of the zone. His chase rate is in the 88th percentile.

It's possible that his pitch selection has something to do with that. He has a close balance between his top four pitches, with the exception of the four-seam fastball.

It is difficult for those standing inside the batter's box to anticipate what Montas will do.

The Dominican Republic native was one of the best pitchers on the market. He and Luis Castillo had an equal chance of leaving the last-place Reds.

New York's staff will have a big impact on the rest of the year. Trivino, who has a 3.84 FIP and 10 saves in 39 appearances, is going to be a great addition to the relief corps.

This isn't a trade the Bronx Bombers need to make because they already have a strong five-man unit.

The emergence of Cortes allowed the front office to stop pursuing high-profile arms. Brian Cashman begged to differ, and it might have had something to do with the shoulder troubles of the pitcher.
