The New York Knicks' pursuit of a free agent and signing of a former Dallas Mavericks guard is being investigated by the NBA.

Before 6 p.m., teams weren't allowed to talk to an agent or a player. The opening of free agency takes place on June 30th. The Knicks agreed to a four-year, $104 million contract with Brunson.

He has ties to the Knicks. Leon Rose, the team president, made a series of trades after the draft to create enough cap space to sign the son of Rick. At the beginning of his career, Rose represented another man. Rick Brunson was recently hired by the Knicks as an assistant, and he was previously an assistant with the Chicago Bulls and Minnesota Wolves.

He averaged 16.3 points and 4.8 assists per game last year. He joined the starting lineup on a full-time basis in December and became Dallas' second option behind Luka Doncic. The Mavericks made it to the Western Conference finals for the first time in 11 years, thanks in part to the play of point guard Brunson.

The NBA's investigation was reported by Yahoo.

The maximum fine for violating the NBA's anti-tampering rules was raised to $10 million in 2019. There is no threat to the contracts becoming voided.

According to sources, the league opened an investigation into the Philadelphia 76ers for possible tampering and early contact with the summer free agency class of James Harden, P.J. Tucker and Danuel House Jr.

Sources say that Morey has begun answering questions from league attorneys.

The NBA stripped the Bulls and Heat of their second-round picks for early contact with free agents Lonzo Ball and Kyle Lowry in 2020. The Milwaukee Bucks lost a second-round pick in the 2020 NBA draft for tampering with a restricted free agent.
