Passan thinks the Nationals could hold onto the star and trade him in the off-season.
There is a chance that the Padres could be the landing spot for Soto. Passan says the squad is seen as a "dream trading partner" by opposing teams.
Luis Campusano is a catcher and Robert Hassell III is an outfielder. Jackson Merrill is part of the Padres farm system.
There are other young players who have reached the majors.
They could help headline a package to land the young catcher, who already has two All-Star selections and a batting title. The right fielder finished second in the voting for the Most Valuable Player last year, and has 20 home runs this season.
There is no question why so many teams want to add him since he helped the Nationals win a World Series.
