According to Eurogamer, Sony is getting rid of Accolades because nobody uses it. If you haven't heard of Accolades, it's a way to anonymously reward other players for being a "good sport," "helpful," or "welcoming."
Accolades will disappear this fall and its message is sad. Sony says that the feature hasn't seen the level of usage they expected. The community is encouraged to keep sending positive messages.
The system was rolled out by Sony to encourage the online gaming community to be less toxic, but players weren't interested in using it to compliment others. Accolades aren't available for every title and are far less relevant in cross- platform games. The 40 percent reduction in matches containing disruptive behaviors was reported in a presentation by the developers of the company.
Many players don't know how to use Accolades, and Sony doesn't make them easy to find.
The system interface on the PS4 was changed with the launch of the PS5. It seems like Accolades will soon be a thing of the past since PS5 consoles are just now becoming easier to buy.
Sony continues to upgrade the PS5 even though Accolades is being removed. The new loyalty program, which was rolled out earlier this month, allows players to earn points and use them to purchase new games.
