Tony Finau became the first PGA Tour player in three years to win back-to-back regular season events when he won the Rocket Mortgage Classic on Sunday.

The victory was a 5-shot one and the tournament record was 26 under. The rookies of the year tied for second.

He won his third title in 11 months. He won the 3M Open in Minnesota by 3 strokes. In the regular season, there have been at least two wins in a row by Brendan Todd.

At the Northern Trust in August of last year, the Salt Lake City product had his first victory in five years and 142 tour starts.

He won for the first time in six tries when he shared the 54-hole lead in a tour event. He broke the tournament record of 25 under set in the inaugural PGA Tour event by one shot.

The final event of the season will be the North Carolina event. There is one last chance for players on the bubble to get into the playoffs and a full card.

The potential match up between Finau and Pendrith in Detroit was a flop.

After sharing the first-round lead with Finau, Pendrith had a subpar round, tying his 21-under total through three rounds.

After hitting a bad tee shot on the second hole and being distracted by a fan running across the fairway, the Canadian lost the lead for good.

After opening with a 70, the world's fourth ranked golfer had his third straight round in the 60s. Young finished second for the fifth time after shooting a 71 in the first round.

He had a 54-hole lead for only the second time in his career. His best finish before his showing in the Motor City was fifth place in the Bermuda Championship, where he led by 3 shots before a 76 cost him the title. He missed nearly four months with a broken rib.

Two putts from 11 feet at No. 4 and a tap-in at No. 7 made a big difference in the game.

He made a 21-foot putt for a bogey at the 10th. After his first bogey of the tournament at No. 11, Finau made a 31 foot putt and Pendrith missed an 11 foot putt on the same hole.

At the par-5 14th, Cantlay made a 5-foot eagle putt to get within 3 strokes of the lead. On the same hole, he made his fifth shot of the day and it made a difference.
