The Republican senator from Pennsylvania was surprised to see that the conservative West Virginia senator agreed to the proposal.

During an interview on CNN's "State of the Union," the retiring two-term Pennsylvania lawmaker told co-anchor Jake Tapper that the bill that is slated to come from the deal would be a disaster.

"I like Joe Manchin a lot, he and I have become friends over the years that we've served together in the Senate." I think Joe Manchin has been taken to the cleaners.

He asked what Joe gets for this. They will pass some kind of legislation about energy infrastructure in the future. This is not a good thing. Inflation is going to get worse. It won't do anything good. I was surprised that Joe agreed to this.

Since his vote can sink or swim everything from reconciliation legislation to judicial appointments, Manchin has been a tough sell on many of the larger social-spending proposals that many Democrats wanted to pass.

A three-year extension of subsidies for individuals to buy health insurance through theAffordable Care Act is one of the provisions of the bill. The bill would generate $739 billion in revenue over the next 10 years, aided in part by a 15% corporate minimum tax on companies with net income over $1 billion.

The tax reform package was signed into law by President Donald Trump.

The bill would do nothing to fight climate change despite the huge investments made in the proposal, according to the senator.

"We need a strong economy and the ability to find the innovation and the technology that will allow us on a massive commercial scale to take carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere." These gestures are not going to accomplish it.

The legislation is expected to be passed in August.
