Kevin McCarthy said last week that he couldn't "recall" speaking with Cassidy Hutchinson, a former White House aide.
Hutchinson, who last month testified under oath while speaking with the House committee investigating the Capitol riot, said that she spoke to McCarthy on the phone on January 6 as the election fraud rally at the Ellipse was about to end.
McCarthy said that he didn't watch Trump's Ellipse speech on January 6 because he was busy working. He didn't remember a conversation with Hutchinson during that time.
I don't remember speaking to her that day. He said he remembers talking to Dan Scavino, as well as talking to Trump and Kissinger.
Kinzinger told Anderson Cooper that he didn't believe McCarthy's statement.
He said that he didn't trust a thing Kevin McCarthy said.
He said that about a year or two ago he decided to become Speaker of the House. He believes that siding with the insurrectionists is the best way to get there. Maybe it will help him speak.
McCarthy has been angling for the speaker's gavel for a long time.
One of the two Republicans on the committee praised Hutchinson as "credible".
He said that none of the anonymous sources had come in and spoken on the record.
Cassidy Hutchinson has a lot of outreach to members of Congress, so it would not be implausible that she would be contacted by Kevin. He said the idea that she would just come up with a story is ridiculous.
