Musk's message about low engagement on the micro-blogging site seemed to have struck a nerve. It's not clear what the CEO was trying to achieve. Based on Musk's previous comments about free speech, bans, and censorship on social media platforms, it's clear how his followers were taking it.

There is something sinister going on.

Many of Musk's followers think that the company that Musk pretended to want to buy is to blame for not getting more interactions.

Is it possible that the shadowbanning is pro-Musk? Shadowbans are when a social media platform demotes accounts so they don't reach as many people. Others wondered if it was difficult to remove all the fake accounts and bots because of Musk's complaint.

The truth is here. The Earth is conspiring with the Sun to affect the weather.

This is the season of summer.

During June, through September, the Northern Hemisphere experiences this phenomenon. The days start earlier and the nights end later. July is usually the hottest month of the year. People enjoy the warm weather and participate in outdoor events. Summer activities include music festivals, barbecues, beach trips, and visits to the theme park. People take a break from working on their computers at work to go on vacation.

"In past years, entire industries saw summer slumps -- or seasonal dips in sales or web traffic," wrote Pamela Bump in a report on this phenomenon.

The summer internet slump of last year was compared with previous years in the report published in July 2021. The leisure and hospitality industry did not experience a web traffic downturn because people were using online businesses to plan vacations. The summer internet traffic slump seems to have increased as people look to get out of their houses and make up for lost time on the internet.

This isn't a new trend and it isn't limited to just social media. When there is bad weather, interactions on Facebook posts increase by 42% compared to when there is good weather. A rainy day on a summer weekend could increase the number of interactions on Facebook.

Data shows that mobile web use has increased during the summer in the past. People most likely log into their social media profiles to talk about their summer activities, not about Musk's complaints about not having sex.

There has been a 220% increase in conversations about music festivals during the summer. Summer anticipation and prep are the types of conversations currently being discussed on the platform. Many users focus on the summer activities they are enjoying.

Many websites, platforms, and online businesses see a decrease in traffic during the summer. If it helps with your engagement numbers, I suppose we can all pretend you're not in the sun.
