Viktor Gyokeres
Sweden international Viktor Gyokeres scored 17 goals in 45 league appearances for Coventry City last season

A great late goal from Viktor Gyokeres was enough for Coventry City to earn a point.

The Black Cats got off to a good start when Jack Clarke headed home a deep delivery.

The away side grew into the match and Jonathan Panzo's ferocious 30-yard strike was brilliantly turned on to the underside of the bar by Anthony Patterson.

Gyokeres came on to his right foot and smashed a wicked strike into the bottom corner when he picked the ball up in the central area.

Mark Robins was marking his 300th game in charge of the club and he will have been pleased with how his side came back in front of a loud crowd at the Stadium of Light.

After making the decision to come for Gooch's deep cross and miss it, Simon Moore was stranded and the ball was headed in byClarke.

The home side could not build on that early goal and only a save from Panzo kept them in the lead at the half.

Godden should have taken the lead when Dan Neil was caught in possession 25 yards from his own goal, but he swept his shot wide of the post before Ross Stewart saw a decent effort saved by Moore at the other end.

The Sky Blues made their pressure tell with just over five minutes to play after Gyokeres scored his first goal of the season.

Next up for Alex Neil's men is a trip to Bristol City.
