According to a trademark application filed by its parent company, ByteDance, TikTok is looking to expand beyond the short-video segment as it fights to stay relevant in the music streaming space.
The Chinese internet giant has applied for a trademark for a music streaming app called TikTok Music. The application has yet to be assigned to a lawyer for review, though it was filed in May. In Australia, the same application was filed.
The service will allow users to purchase, play, share, download music, songs, albums, lyrics, quotes, create, recommend, share his/her playlists, lyrics, quotes, take, edit and upload photographs.
TikTok Music will be more than just an app for streaming music. Many of the best music streaming services have social elements, but it is unlikely that it will be found in this one. If TikTok is able to make this a reality, it will give other music services a run for their money. Users are not allowed to comment on songs and albums on those platforms.

ByteDance's first music streaming platform will not be called TikTok Music. The Chinese company has an app called Resso that is available in a number of countries. Many of the features that ByteDance wants to include in TikTok Music are shared by Resso.
Despite its limited market availability, the service gained traction by piggybacking on TikTok. TikTok Music seems to be following the same path.
The article will be updated when we hear back from Byte Dance.
