Cincinnati Bengal running back Joe Mixon and his coach, Zac Taylor, are unaffected by the Super Bowl ending in controversy.

The running back told reporters on Friday that he should have pushed harder to get on the field.

On Saturday, Taylor said he had discussed the issue with Mixon and that he had no problem with how Mixon expressed himself.

Taylor said that you should be passionate about that situation. He's done a great job. That's a great honor. He's aware of that. You want to get back to those moments, right?

With the team running its two-minute offense and the team in need of points to extend or win the Super Bowl, Cincinnati chose to go with backup Samaje Perine. He was stopped for no gain on Cincinnati's final drive and was the target of a hurried and haphazard pass attempt on the final fourth-and-1 that sealed the Rams' victory.

During the first two days of training camp, after declining to speak with the media, Mixon suggested that he should have checked himself into the game.

During an impromptu news conference after Friday's practice, Mixon said it was a caught-up-in-a-second thing. I should have just been like, "Hey, I'm coming in" It was the heat of the moment, you know what I mean?

During the playoffs, Mixon said he worked with the two-minute offense. Perine had 21 offensive snaps compared to Mixon's 13 in the final two minutes of all the games in the last two years.

Taylor admitted that he probably wouldn't have done it the same way.

"Joe is deserving of the opportunity in a key moment in a key game to try to get it for us as our featured back," Taylor said after the loss. It's just one of the decisions you make in the moment and you have to move forward with it.

Taylor had no problem with Mixon's comments. During Saturday's practice inside Paul Brown Stadium, Taylor and Mixon spoke to the crowd that had come to see the defending AFC champion. After signing autographs and playing catch with fans, Mixon elicited loud cheers from the crowd during drills.

The running back's actions during Saturday's showcase practice were not for the fans and cameras in attendance, according to Taylor.

Taylor said that it was his interaction with everyone he came across. He's one of the most genuine players I've had the pleasure of working with. Everyone in this organization is very appreciative of him.
