A state of emergency was declared by the city of San Francisco in response to an outbreak of monkeypox that affects gay men.

The declaration was made by Mayor London Breed and the city's Department of Public Health.

According to a fact sheet released by the White House, monkeypox is less infectious and lethal than Covid-19 and can be spread through sexual or intimate contact with other people.

A national monkeypox vaccine strategy was launched by the Biden administration. In the month of June, the Department of Health and Human Services received requests for vaccines from 32 states, which resulted in 9000 doses of vaccine being sent.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Breed made a request for federal vaccine supply support on behalf of her city last week in order to address the growing number of cases. Breed said that some vaccine sites had to shut down because they didn't have enough resources.

Breed knows the challenges of putting public health on the back burner. When the AIDS crisis began, San Francisco was left on its own to address what has become a real epidemic in this country.

Scott Wiener, a Democratic State Senator from San Francisco, claims that there has been discrimination and hysteria due to the proliferation of monkeypox.

At the news conference, he said that he was a gay man when he was 17 years old. Gay men are once again being attacked and demonized as we get sick.

Critics claim that the bill would endanger children by allowing out-of-state tourism for gender-transition treatments.

The rise of the virus may be related to homosexual activity. The Los Angeles Times reported that the number of monkeypox cases have gone up in Los Angeles and San Francisco.

San Francisco is home to 30 percent of the monkeypox cases in California.
