Ahead of Tuesday's trade deadline, the Boston Red Sox are considering trading some of their veterans.

According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, catcher Christian Vazquez and starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi could be moving.

Red Sox are now listening on veterans. Maybe not a committed seller yet but they are seriously considering it. JD Martinez, Nate Eovaldi, Christian Vazquez all free agents to be and among the candidates to go. Bogaerts was told he stays.

According to Heyman, but he can leave Boston after this season if he chooses.

The Red Sox have lost a total of 16 games in a row since July 5, including a 28-5 defeat to the BlueJays and a pair of road losses to the Yankees.

Boston entered Saturday last in the American League East with a 50-51 record, but they are still in the running for the third and final wild card spot in the league.

The writing may be on the wall for a team that is bleeding runs and losing games, and trading off the team's best available assets could be the best move at this time.

He is hitting.289 with nine home runs and 38RBI. A.280 batting average and eight homers is what the 31 year old Vazquez has achieved. Over the course of 15 starts, the 32-year-old Eovaldi has gone 4-3 with a 4.43 earned run average, 1.25 WHIP and 80 strikeouts.

According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the Mets could be in the running for both of them if a deal with the Cubs falls through.

Mets have scout watching Red Sox tonight, source tells @TheAthletic. If team finds Cubs’ price for Contreras/Robertson too steep, could pivot to J.D. Martinez/ Christian Vázquez. Separate move or moves would be needed to address bullpen.

The Boston trio is in town to watch the Red Sox play the Milwaukee Brewers.
