Tim Anderson was suspended for three games and fined an undisclosed amount of money for making helmet to hat contact with the home plate umpire.
Anderson will be able to play on Saturday after appealing the suspension.
Anderson was upset with a first pitch strike call in the bottom of the 7th. Anderson made contact between his helmet and the cap of the umpire after he was ejected from the game.
Manager Tony La Russa came out to take up the fight after the argument went on for a few more minutes. He was thrown out a short time later. Anderson will be serving his second suspension this season, his first stemming from an incident that occurred last September where he made contact with an umpire during a bench-clearing fight.
He didn't play in the first two games of the year. He won an appeal after making an obscene gesture towards fans in Cleveland. The suspension will be held in abeyance until a hearing is held.
The A's won by a score of 3-7.
