A Tri-Cities school board member is getting heat for sharing a picture of himself with a congressman under investigation for sex traffickers.
The Kennewick School Board member shared a photo of himself with the congressman.
There was a picture taken at the Conservative Political Action Conference.
Gaetz, who is under investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice, voted against an anti-sex trafficking bill. Gaetz has not been accused of a crime.
Gaetz was implicated in the investigation when his close friend, former Seminole County, Florida, Tax Assessor,Joel Greenberg, was arrested and later convicted of numerous crimes.
The sentencing of Greenberg has reportedly been delayed as he cooperates with the investigation into Gaetz and the larger array of crimes.
Gaetz was one of the Republicans who voted against the bill. Other people included Lauren Boebert.
A spokesman for Gaetz told USA Today that he voted against it because he thought the definition of sex trafficking used would create a loophole for illegal immigration. The cost of the bill was excessive according to him.
Since 2000, the anti-sex trafficking measures have been strengthened.
He thinks Gaetz had a good reason for voting against it.
When asked if he was worried about being an elected school board member posing for photos with someone accused of sex trafficking, he was confident.
It didn't happen I would be the first person to speak out about how bad it is. My wife and I have spent a lot of time fighting sex traffickers. I'm very concerned about it. I think it's a completely fabricated story. I don't want to hold Matt Gaetz accountable for something he didn't do.
He understands that he is held to a higher standard and that his actions speak for him. He mentioned his work on the school board.
Matt Gaetz won't be punished for false claims made against him. If someone wants me to do that, they need to ask themselves what country they live in.
