The creators of Game of Thrones, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, have stepped down from their executive producer roles in the next Star Wars movie.

In a statement given to Hollywood Reporter, the pair explained that juggling both their Star Wars and Netflix projects has proven difficult. "Getting to talk about Star Wars with George Lucas and the current Star Wars team was the thrill of a lifetime, and we will always be indebted to the saga that changed everything," said the duo. "But there are only so many hours in the day, and we felt we could not do justice to both Star Wars and our Netflix projects. So we are regretfully stepping away."

This past summer, Benioff and Weiss signed a $200 million five-year deal with Netflix, where they're expected to develop new shows and movies for the streaming platform. Before their exit, the duo was set to produce the next Star Wars film, to be released in 2022, as well as a new spinoff series for George Lucas. This would have been the next film in the franchise, to come after this year's Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker.
