The New York Islanders are playing the Mega Millions lottery to raise money for charity.

The Islanders spent $50,000 on Mega Millions tickets.

Full-season ticket members, suite holders, staff and Islanders Children's Foundation charity will get a piece of the net winnings if the team hits the lottery.

The entire amount will be donated to the team's Children's Foundation if the Isles win less than $250,000.

Friday's drawing is the third largest in lottery history. In January 2016 there were three different winners who split the largest prize in the history of the game.

This will be the second $1 billion Mega Millions prize. The first pot was won in October of last year. It is the largest lottery prize ever won.

If there is a winner, the cash value option is $742 million.

You could theoretically buy an NHL franchise if you win the Mega Millions.
