Young starting quarterbacks around the league are getting valuable reps as the NFL training camps get closer.
After the offense was almost shut out completely in a red zone drill at the end of Thursday's practice, Mac Jones was expected to raise his level of performance.
Jones showed that his relationship with Jonnu Smith is better now than it was a year ago. On one play, Jones lofted a ball to Smith in the back of the end zone, with Dugger in coverage, and Smith leaped high to catch the ball for a touchdown. Smith spiked after catching another touchdown from Jones.
Jones threw his first pick up of camp right into the chest of Mills.
After a good showing in the opening practice, the offense had a rough outing in Philadelphia. Young receiver made their mark in Tennessee and Washington.
Lamar Jackson was sharp in Baltimore and a pair of Bears' rookies picked off a first team quarterback.
You need to know what to expect from the camps.
Greg Roman heaped praise on Lamar Jackson, saying he has thrown the ball well. On Friday, he completed 18 of 25 passes, which included a few drops.
Roman said that he had never seen him throw it better. He worked hard in the off-season and it is showing. We are very excited about that.
Third-year receiver Chase Claypool didn't finish Friday's practice because of a shoulder injury, but coach Mike Tomlin said he didn't have a high level of concern about the injury. Calvin Austin III and George Pickens made the most of their opportunities with Claypool and Diontae Johnson out. One of the catches he made was against the sideline, where he juking around the corner to find an open field. Pickens, listed at 6-3, 200 pounds, looks smooth in his moves and is expected to be a factor in the Pittsburgh offense early.
The Bears' top two rookies came away with a pair of picks against the first-team offense in Chicago's third camp practice. The tipped pass was thrown behind the wide receiver and Kyler Gordon caught it. When Cole Kmet tried to catch the ball, safety Jaquan Brisker looked at his hips and jumped his route for the pick.
There might be some competition between the Bears' second-round picks after a strong day for the defense.
"After Gordon got the first one, I was like, 'I gotta get one now, I gotta get one,'" There is a competition between the corners, safeties, and linebackers. I'm definitely trying to be the leader of the pack.
It wasn't a good day for the Giants offense. Jones and his receiver were not on the same page. Jones threw an overthrown ball that went for a score. Without center Jon Feliciano, the offensive line struggled. These are the growing pains of learning the new offense of the Giants and Jones.
When the crowd is a group of young fans, CordarrellePatterson knows how to play to them. Twice during Friday's practice in Flowery Branch, Georgia, the do-everything offensive player walked over to sign autographs. He continues to be the Falcons' fan favorite. He was able to get some carries out of the backfield.
On the field, the battle at left guard is going to be interesting as last year's third-round pick is trying to make the team. It's too early to make any conclusions, but it's notable that they've been rotating Drew Dalman and Matt Hennessy at center.
Dyami Brown needs to be a bigger threat for Washington. He was a third-round pick. He made a great catch on Friday. The quarterback threw the ball to Brown. With Brown pinned to his side, Cornerer Kendall Fuller was in a perfect position to intercept the ball. Brown leaped and grabbed the ball as they fell to the ground.
After a good showing in the opening practice, the offense and quarterback struggled.
The center said it didn't look good.
One of the defensive highlights was the intercept of a floating Hurts pass intended for Goedert.
The second day of camp is here. Goedert said they would get it right.
Another great day of work was turned in by the TennesseeTitans' rookies. In the one-on-one period, he used his size to his advantage. When he caught a couple of passes from Ryan Tannehill in the middle of the field, the crowd went nuts.
It would have been easy to say "Same old Sammy Watkins" when he began camp on the non- football injury list. The veteran receiver who the Packers signed in the off-season was relieved to be able to practice on the third day of camp. He said he felt something in one of his legs.
Watkins said that the next day he went out and ran routes and felt great. It wasn't really anything. On the day the Packers conducted only a short, half-speed practice, he returned to practice. Watkins was able to catch a few passes from Rodgers as he relaxed.
Dunlap wasn't at practice. Dunlap will not return to camp until the middle of next week, as he needs a few days to get things in order at home.
Cole Strange, the team's first-round pick, was summoned to compete in a punt-catching competition at the end of practice. The 6-foot-5, 295-pound Strange hauled in one punt, and then when Mitchell missed his attempt, Strange caught another with a football in his grasp. That set off a celebration by the offense, which did not win anything other than bragging rights.
Alexander will be brought along slowly as he gets ready to play football. The Jets are going to have him work on his own for a couple of days before he gets on the practice field. He didn't have an off-season program because he wasn't signed at the end of last season. He will be a backup in the weakside and strongside positions.
He was coached by Robert Saleh in San Francisco. Rich Cimini said that he just has to do what he always does, which is bring a lot of juice.
At the end of practice, the quarterbacks were given a chance to see what they could do with 1:45 left on the clock. The touchdown drive was created by pass interference on a deep pass and a circus catch in the end zone by Shi Smith after the ball was tipped.
The field goal was made as time expired. The Carolinas ranked in the bottom half of the league in red zone scoring. He was 0-for-4 on his first series. He went 1 for 4. He completed his first deep pass of practice with a 40-plus yard strike.
Hyde was hurt trying to intercept a Josh Allen pass. He came to the ground after dropping the ball. After a few seconds, Jordan Poyer motioned to the team's athletic trainers, who came over to attend to Hyde. The music was turned off while multiple Bills players took a knee.
He was helped off the field and taken to the locker room in the passenger seat of a cart. Hyde has a hip injury that is being evaluated. He and Poyer are arguably the best safety duo in the NFL, so any time missed would be a big loss for the Bills. Hyde didn't practice the rest of the time.
Chase Young is going to miss the season opener.
Chase Young will be out at least the season opener because of a knee injury. According to a team source, Young would come back in September.
J.J. Watt doesn't like Guardian Cap.
Watt was not a fan of wearing the Guardian Cap during training camp and shared his thoughts on Friday.
Watt jokingly said that he felt like a bobblehead. You are going to fall over. I will probably be fined for this. It's great. There is 15 grand left.
During training camp, all offensive linemen, defensive linemen, tight ends and linebackers must wear the Guardian Cap.
There is more.
