Sin City is filled to the brim with gambling, celebrity residencies and, as of this week, flood water. Videos and photos of Las Vegas were posted on social media. According to the Las Vegas office of the National Weather Service, a flash flood warning was issued for the city as storms moved into the area. Some parts of the city recorded over 1 inch of rain and the office reported winds at over 70 miles per hour.

According to the Clark County Regional Flood Control District, the water depth has risen to over 16 feet. Downtown Las Vegas is south of the Las Vegas Strip. As the upstream channels continue to drain to the basin, there is still a lot of capacity left in the basin.

The flooding has not taken any lives, but it has left gamblers and party goers soaked in the high traffic areas of the Strip. Videos posted on social media show the extent of the damage, as flooding rushed through parking garage and casino floors.

As climate change continues, so will heavy rain events as the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change found that rain events have gotten 30% more frequent across the globe.
