The New York Yankees appear to be focused on starting pitchers ahead of Tuesday's trade deadline after making one move to boost their outfield depth.

According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, Luis Castillo of the Cincinnati Reds seems to be the Yankees' first choice, with other pitchers on their radar.

The Yankees made one of the first notable moves leading up to the trade deadline when they acquired All-Star left fielder AndrewBenintendi from the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday.

New York didn't have to give up a lot of capital. None of the pitchers the Royals received cracked the top 10 in MLB.com's prospects rankings for K.C.

A deal for Castillo would be costly. He has another year of team control remaining and has a 2.86 earned run with 90 strikeouts this season.

Castillo missed the first month of the season with a shoulder injury, but he hasn't had any issues since his debut.

Montas missed two weeks due to a shoulder flare-up that he had earlier this month. Since returning, the 29-year-old has made two starts.

For the rest of the season, Syndergaard would be rented. He signed a one-year contract with the Angels. In 15 starts, the right-handed pitcher has a 3.83 earned run average, but his 7.2 strikeouts per nineinnings mark is the lowest of his career.

He is on a one-year deal. Over 19 starts, he has a 3.70ERA, a 1.28 WHIP and 85 strikeouts.

While the Yankees have an established ace with Gerrit Cole, they could use more depth, especially with the pitcher who has already surpassed his MLB high with 101.2 strikeouts.

The Yankees have the best record in the American League. The Dodgers have the best record in Major League Baseball.
