A Delta Air Lines flight was forced to make a U-Turn after the pilots discovered there was an issue with the fuel.

The news was reported by Newsweek.

The Delta flight was supposed to take off from John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York and go to the airport in Africa.

The plane turned around and went back to New York.

The incident was confirmed by a Delta spokesman. A representative for the airline told Newsweek that the plane returned to JFK out of an abundance of caution due to a fuel problem.

When the amount of fuel between the left and right fuel tanks is not equal, it's called a fuel imbalance.

An emergency was declared on arrival at JFK to get priority handling from air traffic control. The people on the plane disembarked in New York.

The plane turned around about two hours into the flight according to a video uploaded by Arieh Smith.

Smith said in the video that the captain looked out the window to see that the plane had a fuel issue.

It was the scariest day of Smith's life.

Smith recorded himself peering into the plane's cockpit and talking to the pilots, who told him that they couldn't balance the fuel on the plane.

Smith didn't reply to the request from Insider.

There are fuel issues in aircraft. A Qantas Airways plane came close to running out of fuel on approach to Perth last week, prompting the crew to make an emergency landing.
