Diana Taurasi makes history with 30-point performance (1:03)

Diana Taurasi became the first player in history to score 30 or more points at age 40 or older in the Mercury's victory. There is a time and a place for this.

It seems hard to imagine, but Diana Taurasi found more rarified air on Thursday night.

The Phoenix Mercury's Diana Taurasi became the first player in league history to score 30 or more points in a game at the age of 40 or older. She became the third person to do it in NBA/WNBA history.

When you're old, everything is a record, said Taurasi. A person missed 15 3s in a game. The person had four offensive fouls in a two minute period.

I'm just happy with the outcome. At 40 we can be the best team.

With the win, the Mercury vaulted into sixth place in the league, putting them in a good position to make the playoffs. Phoenix has a good chance of making the playoffs, but it could change overnight.

The 40-year-old was 12-for-20 from the field, including 5-for-13 from 3-point range, and 11-for-12 from the free throw line. For the 27th game in a row, Taurasi had 30 points and five 3-pointers, which is more than all the other teams in the league. They are close with 19.

This was her eighth game of the season in which she made at least five 3-pointers, the second-most in the history of the league. It was Taurasi's 52nd career 30-point game, more than any other player in the history of the league.

She received two technicals for arguing a foul call and was thrown out of the game with 7 minutes left in the game.

She made me proud, but I think Diggins-Smith's ejection is unfortunate.

Carter had 23 points and Nneka had 11.

With seven games to go, Phoenix is 13-16. Should they hold on to a spot in the playoffs, the Mercury will extend their streak to 10 appearances.
