The former national security adviser warned this week that candidates who model themselves after the former president could be in danger of political suicide.

The results don't mean that Republican candidates shouldn't campaign as true conservatives, only that they stress their loyalty to principles.
He said that the candidates need to separate themselves from Trump.
Trump's influence on the nominating process could be fatal to GOP efforts to gain control of the Senate in the upcoming elections.
Trump's fixation on himself and the 2020 election is poisonous to independent and undecided voters, according to a statement by the US ambassador to the UN.
"Republican candidates who hope to win in November are at risk of political suicide if they stress their close ties to Trump or allow their opponents to portray them as mini- Trumps," he said.
There are whispers that Trump's high-profile Senate picks may lose their races despite the Democrats' struggles.
Recent polling shows that John Fetterman has overtaken Oz in his race. In November, Oz and Fetterman will square off to decide who will replace Pat Toomey in Pennsylvania.
The Washington Post reported in April that sources close to Trump were worried about the former president's endorsements.
