The university announced in a school release Thursday morning that they had learned of the death of a student.

The director of athletics at the University of Northern Iowa said that a beloved member of the Panther family had passed away. The loss of our swimming and diving team is heartbreaking. Our sympathies are with the family, teammates and friends of Lilly.

There was no cause of death released by the university.

The sophomore finished her second season with the team. She earned first-team all-Missouri Valley Conference honors with a second-place finish in the 200 yard butterfly.

In his sophomore year, the former Iowa City West star set a new school record in the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 2:02.97.

Nick Lakin is the swimming and diving coach for the panthers. Lily was very kind to other people. She was a ferocious competitor in the pool and classroom, but for those that knew her best she was very compassionate and cared about everyone. We are praying for everyone that knows her.

All four years of high school, he qualified for the state meet in multiple events. In her sophomore year, she finished third in the 100 yard butterfly. As a junior and senior, he was a part of the 400 yard freestyle relay that finished second.
