The "independent study" clause was removed from Kyler Murray's contract by the ArizonaCardinals.

The team said that the addendum was removed after seeing the distraction it created. It was seen in a way that was never intended. Our confidence in Kyler Murray is as high as it's ever been, and nothing shows our belief in his ability to lead this team more than the commitment shown in this contract.

"Independent study addendum" is what the clause was called. Murray was required to study material given to him by the club in order to prepare for the next game. The contract states that Murray would get credit for completing his film study.

Murray held a news conference to defend himself against the backlash he has received.

Murray spoke for about an hour and a half.

He said it was disrespectful that people thought he wouldn't be a good student of the game.

He said it was a joke.

One day before the team made the announcement, the addendum was removed from Murray's contract.
