There is a distinct wrestling vibe in Nashville this week and it spilled over into the TennesseeTitans training camp on Thursday.
On Sunday, pro wrestling legend "The Nature Boy" will perform in the ring for the last time on an independent show as he prepares to retire. According to Turron Davenport, the legendary wrestler stopped by the team's practice and spoke to the players at the request of coach Mike Vrbel. After practice, the team played his theme music and shared who his favorite player is, and as he walked onto the field, he said Vrbel could have been a wrestler.
Ryan Jensen was carted off the field with a left knee injury in the first week of the training camp. After Ben Roethlisberger claimed that today's players are more "me-first," the retired Pittsburgh Steeler tried to add some context to his statement.
You need to know what to expect from the camps.
Lamar Jackson has gained more lean muscle and it showed on his throws. The ball was thrown with more force and it had tighter spirals. Jackson was 14-of-18 in team drills with a touchdown pass to Likely. John Harbaugh said that he looked great.
On his first live, team-period rep, Kenny Pickett threw an pick-six. On Wednesday's practice, he had an intercept. The ball was knocked down. The early bumps aren't cause for major concern as Pickett has taken reps with the third string. Mike Tomlin isn't evaluating his options on a throw-by-throw basis and he isn't micromanaging the quarterback race. It's good news for Pickett as he gets his feet wet in the league.
Despite running the same number of plays as last year, the Colts have had a fast start to training camp, finishing 10 minutes before their scheduled finish time each day. What's the reason? Frank Reich said that it was due to the quarterback. The quarterback is trying to push the pace. Quarterback Matt Ryan has followed through on his promise to raise the intensity of training camp by demanding a greater pace between snaps. Reich said it was unbelievable. We haven't practiced that fast. There is a mentality. It is a belief. He said at the beginning that he was going to push the pace. We will follow your lead. Stephen Holder said to go.
The quarterback made a good decision to wear short pants for Thursday's second practice after he admitted he was stupid for showing up in the hot, humid conditions of Spartanburg, S.C., wearing long pants. He made some poor decisions on the field while taking first-team reps and then changed his mind the next day. The first three passes should have been thrown away. The kind of mistakes the Carolinas are trying to eliminate are the kind of mistakes Sam Darnold made a year ago.
The Green Bay Packers have a new player. The star of the second practice was Doubs. The fourth-round pick from Nevada made the play of the day when he caught an 8-yard touchdown pass in the back of the end zone. The back ofStokes was turned. I was able to make something happen because of the opportunity given to me by the man. One way to get Rodgers' trust is to make 50-50 balls that are close to the ball. De'Vondre Campbell was beaten for a red zone touchdown by Doubs on a drag route, and he held on to a ball over the middle after an accidental collision with a safety. A second-round pick has been out of camp while recovering from a knee injury.
As he waits to see if he'll be suspended for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy, quarterback Deshaun Watson continues to develop chemistry with his new receiving corps as he waits to see if he'll be suspended for violating the league's personal conduct policy. He maintains that he is not guilty of the accusations. Peoples-Jones was found on several nifty throws. Anthony Schwartz had to leave practice early because of an injury. One of the plays of the day was by veteran receiver DeVante Parker, who caught a back-shoulder touchdown pass from Mac Jones near the left pylon. These aren't padded practices, so there is no contact, and Mills was wearing gloves on his hands to help him avoid grabbing. But he made an initial statement.
In his first season with the Jags, Shaquill didn't have an intercept, but he did drop four potential picks, which is why he made working on his hands a priority in the off-season. It seems to have paid off early on. Griffin made a diving, one-handed catch to secure a tipped pass in the end zone. The quarterback tried to pass the ball to the tight end, but Quarterman diverted it to the other side. In the spring, he said he had been trying to catch 75 to 100 balls a day.
The Commanders' offense did not look good. There is too much pressure by the defense, too many hands in passing lanes, and too many poor throws. The quarterback showed off his arm on a deep ball to Dotson, hitting him in stride on an approximately 40-yard throw. Dotson's strength was highlighted by the play as he made an over-the-shoulder catch. Dotson has been performing well.
James didn't practice for a second day as negotiations over a contract extension continued. James is taking part in the walk-through portion of practice. Two years ago, Joey Bosa went through the contract process and talked to James about it. Bosa thinks that James is doing the right thing. Bosa said that he deserved whatever he would get. The fact that he's out here, coaching the guys, fully involved, 100 percent locked in, it obviously means a lot to all of us. James is going to make $9 million in the last season of his contract.
The quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons has looked good. According to unofficial calculations, Marcus Mariota has completed all 24 passes he's thrown so far in camp, and Thursday he was helped out a few times by nice plays from his tight ends, including Anthony Firkser. Ridder threw a deep ball to Drake London that sparkled, but he also held the ball too long in other instances. It's going to be interesting to watch the competition between the Falcons and the Oregon team.
