The Dallas Cowboys quarterback will turn 29 on Friday.
"This will be the golden birthday," he said. This will be the golden year.
Mike McCarthy was the quarterbacks coach for the Green Bay Packers when they won the 2010 Super Bowl and he believes that the same can be said for Mississippi State's Eli Manning.
At the end of the day, the Super Bowl is won by the quarterback and I think you see him taking ownership of that. McCarthy said that it was his opinion if you looked at the numbers. I view the journey and the vision of how you prepare your team and what your team needs to look like in that way. He's always looking to improve and that's exactly what you're looking for.
He thinks about winning a Super Bowl a lot, especially playing for a team that won titles with Roger Staubach and Troy Aikman.
"Obviously knowing the quarterbacks that played for this team and knowing their legacy and the ones that we hold at the highest standard are the ones that have Super Bowl rings." I want to fill the shoes of those guys that have come before me and do something for this organization that hasn't been done in a long time.
The Cowboys haven't won a Super Bowl since 1995 and they haven't made it to the playoffs since. The team lost to the San Francisco 49ers in the wild-card round of the playoffs.
Staubach had two Super Bowl wins and two other appearances by the time he was the full-time starter. He won three Super Bowls in Dallas. Danny White and Tony Romo had to deal with the pressure of not delivering a Super Bowl in the same way that Staubach and Aikman had to.
The Cowboys' record-holder for touchdown passes last year understands.
When you sign up for this position, you understand that comes with it. It's reciprocated the same way when you win a game. Sometimes it goes our way when we don't win games. I'm a guy that will take whatever comes my way. It takes more than that to help my team, all 53 who will participate in the game, and just take the good with the bad. The entire organization is taken. I don't pay much attention to where the criticism or blame is going.
