Daniel Castano exits game after taking line drive off the head (0:33)

The Marlins said that Castano had a forehead contusion and a mild concussion after he was hit in the head by a line drive. There is a time and a place.

5:12 PM ET

The pitcher for the Cincinnati Reds was hit on the forehead by a line drive from the Miami Marlins in the first game of their series.

Manager Don Mattingly said that the ball hit the bill of his cap and bounced off the crown. According to the team, Castano has a concussion and a bruised forehead, but it was not life threatening.

After the game, Castano wore a bandage on his forehead where some skin had been removed. I was down for a short time. I wasn't sure if I'd make it. When I woke up, I wanted to know what had happened. I'm not as bad now. I'm tired, but I will be fine.

Manager Don Mattingly and athletic trainers went to the mound to check on the left-handed pitcher after he fell to the field on his knees. The door on the outfield fence opened as a cart prepared to enter the field, and Castano appeared to be okay.

Mattingly talked to Reds manager David Bell who called to check on Castano. Damage is your greatest fear. He's pretty good.

Castano left the field under his own power, a towel draped over his neck, after Solano put a hand on the pitcher's shoulder and spoke with him.

It is terrible to see that happen to someone. I have witnessed it before. I had a conversation to make sure everything was ok. It's a big relief to know that. It's very frightening for the pitcher, their team and our team. You don't want to play the game anymore. We all felt a bit better when he walked off on his own.

Third baseman Joey Wendle caught the ball after it was hit so hard.

Castano was happy that they got the out.

Castano faced just five hitters. In 17 starts and 5 relief appearances, he is 2-7. He made the start after being recalled from Triple-AJacksonville.

The longer it goes, the better off you are, according to Mattingly. You caught it if it hits you and drops straight down.

He had never been hit by a comebacker.

Reds starter Graham Ashcraft was scared. You don't want to see that. I was waiting for something to happen. I thought he had been hit in the face. I hope he's okay. I am praying for him and his family. I hope he makes his next start.
