Lamar Jackson says he's hopeful on deal with Baltimore Ravens but talks will have 'cutoff'

Lamar Jackson doesn't want negotiations to drag into the regular season, but he is hopeful that a contract extension will be completed soon.

Jackson thinks a deal will be done with the Ravens. I believe so. I believe so. We will have to look at it.

Is there a deal in place before the New York Jets game? Jackson said there would be a cutoff in the talks. Hopefully.

Jackson is one of the few players in the league who doesn't have an agent and represents himself. Four quarterbacks have signed deals that include at least $150 million in guaranteed money and three have signed extensions that average at least $45 million per.

The Ravens wanted to have contract talks but Jackson didn't show any desire to do so. Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta and Jackson will meet during training camp when there is mutual free time.

Jackson wasn't sure if he was looking for a fully guaranteed deal like the one given to him by the Cleveland Browns. There was a fully guaranteed amount of $232 million.

Jackson said that they have a conversation. I will keep that in-house.

Jackson will make $23.016 million in the fifth year of his contract. If the sides don't reach an extension by March 7, the Ravens would have to use the franchise tag on Jackson to keep him from becoming an unrestricted free agent.

Harbaugh was optimistic about the team's future.

Harbaugh said both sides were very motivated to get the job done. I think it's at that location.

The most challenging season of Jackson's career is behind him. He missed a career-high five games due to an ankle injury and threw a career-worst 13 picks.

Jackson has been a winner over the past four seasons. The Ravens are 37-12 (.755) when Jackson starts and 3-7 (.285) without him this year.

Jackson took part in both full-team practices this week after reporting to training camp. The risk of injury is what makes some players hold in and not practice. Jackson didn't consider doing that.

I want to win the game. Jackson wants to be great. I would like to work with my brothers. I want to keep them out there. I'm not that person. It has never been me.
