According to a source, Alexander is going to sign a one-year contract with the Jets.

Alexander and the Jets head coach Robert Saleh worked together with the San Francisco 49ers in the 90's.

Alexander could play either the strongside or weakside positions for the Jets. Two of the three starting positions are set. There are two leading candidates for the third spot.

The Jets were vulnerable because they ignored the linebacker position. They visited with Alexander in May because they wanted to add a veteran. They were always interested even though he left.

Since the end of the season, Alexander has joined the Jets as a defensive player. Harris, D.J. Reed, and Solomon Thomas are also football players.

Alexander played in 12 games with 50 tackles, a career-high 3.5 sacks, an intercept, and a forced fumbled last season after he was traded from the 49ers to the Saints.

Alexander played 80% of the defensive snaps over the final eight games of the season after starting only eight games because of an ankle injury.

Alexander had injuries while in San Francisco. He injured his ankle in 2020 and tore his pec in 2019.

He made his only Pro Bowl as a member of the Buccaneers, who drafted him in the fourth round.

Rich Cimini and Mike Triplett were contributors.
