Donald Trump reversed his position on blaming the Saudi government for the 9/11 terrorist attacks when he was asked about his involvement with a golf club funded by Saudi Arabia.

The Trump National Golf Club Bedminster in New Jersey will host a golf tournament this week.

In 2016 he said "Who blew up the World Trade Center?...take a look at Saudi Arabia".

Trump told the Wall Street Journal on Monday that he couldn't comment on the protesters because he wasn't familiar with their arguments.

Some of the hijackers on Sept. 11, 2001, were Saudi nationals, though the U.S. has previously found the Saudi government played no direct role in the attack. Saudi Arabia has always denied any link to the attacks. In the past, Trump has claimed that he saw thousands of Muslims in Jersey City cheering on the 9/11 attacks. The World Trade Center is close to Bedminster. Families of Sept. 11 victims and press groups concerned about the murder of a Saudi journalist are protesting the funding of a golf course by the Public Investment Fund. Last week, Trump urged golf players to defect from the tour and take the money. The PGA Tour boycotted Trump after the Capitol riot, and he endorsed the new circuit. In an interview with the Journal on Monday, Trump said that the golf league has been a great thing for Saudi Arabia.

The pro-amateur golf event was held at Trump's Bedminster club and he played with two of the best players in the game. Reality television host Chris Harrison participated. An offer to join the broadcast team is expected by Thursday.
