Workers at a Trader Joe's store in Massachusetts voted to unionize on Thursday, following in the footsteps of Starbucks, Apple and Amazon. It is the first store to have a union.
The election was overseen by the National Labor Relations Board.
Starbucks has more than 200 company-owned stores that have voted to unionize since December. Workers at a store in Colorado filed an election petition this week, as the supermarket chain prepares to face at least one more union vote in the near future.
Health care and retirement benefits have become less generous over the past several years and that is one of the reasons why supporters of the new Trader Joe's union are organizing.
