The LIV Golf pro-am was held at the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey.
Donald Trump and his family played in the summer heat.
The president supports the LIV Golf tour, which is financed by Saudi Arabian backers. He told the Wall Street Journal that the tournament has been a great investment for the country.
"I think it has been a good thing for the image of Saudi Arabia," Trump said. Even with billions of dollars, that's more valuable than other things because you can't buy that.
Advocacy groups claim that the new golf league is akin to "sportswashing" and that the Saudi government is trying to obscure its reputation with the new league.
In a statement, the National Press Club criticized LIV Golf and Trump.
The statement says that the tournament is being held at a course owned by the former president. The release of the final U.S. government report concluded that the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia was most likely involved in planning and approving the murder.
This week in Bedminster is one of two events that will be held at Trump properties.
