The team said that Meyer will have Tommy John surgery.
The decision to have the surgery was made after he consulted with a number of doctors, after he underwent an MRI on Monday that showed the injury.
The date of the surgery has not been decided.
Miami left-handed pitcher Daniel Castano had to leave his team's game at Cincinnati on Thursday after being hit in the eye by a line drive. Castano walked off the field under his own power.
Castano has a contusion on his head and will be evaluated.
Meyer was one of the top baseball prospects before the season and was ranked as high as 33.
Meyer faced three batters and only threw 10 pitches before he was taken out of the game. He was put on the injured list by the Marlins.
Meyer, who was the third overall pick in the 2020 draft, made two starts this season before the injury and finished with an 0-1 record and a 2.50 earned run average. He allowed five runs, seven hits, and two home runs.
