Kyler Murray: 'Disrespectful' to think I don't put in the work (1:27)

There is a clause in Kyler Murray's contract that requires him to spend at least four hours a week engaged in independent study.

Kyler Murray held a press conference on Thursday to defend himself against the backlash he's received from the independent study.

Murray spoke for about an hour and a half.

He said it was disrespectful that people thought he wouldn't be a good student of the game.

He said it was a joke.

Murray said it's hard to play quarterback if you don't study a lot of film.

He said that he was flattered that people thought he could go out there and not prepare for the game.

Murray admitted his surprise appearance was out of character.

He won the Heisman, went in the first round of the NFL and MLB drafts, and was a two time pro bowler.

He said that he is already behind the eight ball.

He said he couldn't afford to take any quick fixes. It's not possible if you don't prepare the right way.

It's ridiculous.

Murray asked the reporters if they had any questions about football.

"I'm flattered that y'all think that at my size I can go out there and not prepare for the game and not take it serious." Kyler Murray

There are many different ways to watch film and process the game, according to Murray.

Murray said that he watches film alone. It doesn't need to be said. I like to watch the game with my quarterbacks and my coaches.

Murray didn't like the way the response to the addendum was received. He said he was not surprised by the response.

Murray said that he wouldn't let his work ethic get in the way of his preparation. I have put in an incomprehensible amount of time and blood, sweat, tears, and work into what I do. The amount of time it takes to do two sports at a high level in college is not comprehended by people. It's hilarious.

I'm honored that you think that I wouldn't be standing here today if I didn't have a work ethic and prepare. It does not exist. It can't be done. It isn't doable.
