“Mad” Max Scherzer

Max was a little too intense for his own good, but it has not been a problem. When he's on the mound, he would tell you that he's a Hall of Fame pitcher. Is that true? He is that way. There's no need to change it now.

Last night was the date Mets fans had circled, as they would get to see their newest and shiniest toy roll out against the team they hate the most. One of the most feared offenses in baseball was held without a run by the ace pitcher. He did this to Judge, who has only been a mascot for most everyone else.

The Mets went on to win in walkoff fashion, but what we are here for today is what the pitcher had to say about using pitch com for the first time.

The ace pitcher is their own breed. One can recall how close he was to being crazy when he first heard about the idea, though he has softened his stance since. They have their routines, they like things how they like them, and anything that changes the parameters they have come up with is aninfringement. Last night was the first time in his career that he didn't look between his catcher's knees to see what the next pitch should be. To a baseball player, and especially a pitcher, it is akin to the sky changing color.

There is a dense forest of energy and superstition that may have a point. It is not a plague on the game and it is not a problem. When it works smoothly, it speeds the game up a bit and doesn't hurt anyone. The game was messy because of technology. The Astros were using cameras. The problem for the Astros and their opponents wasn't the actual stealing of the signs. It was a decision. It is part of the game to steal the signs. It is different to do it from a center field camera. It's degrees again.

It doesn't excuse the Astros or the other teams who were using tech to steal signs but didn't gain much attention. Some baseball teams figured it out because they used multiple signs from jump street with no one on base. You wouldn't have to change your signs every time. The Astros opponents just expected everything to be above board. It's sports after all.

Technology is saving a problem. It seems like it's all right. Surely the signal wouldn't be hacked into by a team. He has a case to be suspicious. There has been a constant discussion about what isn't in baseball. The majority of fans don't think sign stealing is important. Baseball players like things just the same, given that how much depends on a fraction of an inch here or there.

It seems like it is ridiculous now. It won't happen in a few years when we find out which team got into the other's booth.
