Without cosplay, Comic-Con wouldn't be happening.

One of the main reasons people attend is to see people dressed up in elaborate costumes as a part of the event. The importance of cosplay was even more important this year. There has been no in-person Comic-Con for the last two years due to health concerns. The cosplayers returned to the streets of San Diego last weekend.

Not without some changes. People had to wear masks because Comic-Con doesn't mean Covid is over. The kind of masks needed to stop the spread of infectious disease aren't necessarily the kind that Spider-Man wears. Fans got inventive.

The photographer was asked by WIRED to look for cosplayers with some of the most creative masks around. Some of the ones he found didn't have masks at all.
