According to new research, almost a third of U.K. workers plan to take on a second job in order to cope with the cost of living crisis.
A national survey of 2,000 workers by Indeed Flex, an online marketplace for flexible employment, found that 32% of them will do temporary work to boost their income.
Nineteen percent of those surveyed already have a second job. 8% want a lot more shifts and another 9% plan to take on a few more shifts.
The scale of the squeeze on some households is underscored by the figures.
Food prices are climbing at more than 8% and regulated energy bills are expected to increase by more than 50% in October. The petrol pump's prices have gone up.
Wages are falling at the fastest rate on record as they fail to track inflation, which is now at a 40 year high.
Many workers sell unwanted clothing and household goods to bring in extra cash, but temporary work is a more reliable source of income according to Indeed Flex. The financial benefits of temping have come to the forefront. They can top up their earnings with temping.
Workers in London are more likely to apply for temporary jobs. The capital is home to almost a fifth of those planning to do temp work because of the rising cost of living.
