If you see an electric pickup truck assisting cops in the future, be prepared. There is a version of the F-150 that is built for police. The new model can be used for tasks that don't involve pursuit, such as assisting at crime scenes or towing boats. There are optional police lights for the roof, an instrument panel tray with easier equipment mounting, and tougher seating with steel intrusion plates. This truck could be used in a pinch.
It's not a bad thing that the Lighting Pro is similar to other F-150 EV's. The police version can be fitted with the same battery packs and motor as the regular version. You'll also get driver assistance such as Co-Pilot360 and automatic emergency braking, and Ford Pro promises support you don't get with ordinary models. To no one's surprise, Ford is pitching the Lighting's design as officer-friendly, and the large frack provides extra gear storage.
You will have to wait a while for range estimates and other details of the F-150 Lightning, as Ford doesn't expect to share full details of the vehicle until later this summer. This might be an important launch. Ford wants to point out that the first electric pickup in the US is for police. It could still play an important role in the departments.
