It seems that Russia's departure from the International Space Station is not imminent.

The new head of Russia's space agency announced on Tuesday that the nation would leave the International Space Station after 2024.

It looks like Russia is going to take advantage of the wiggle room in that statement. The nation intends to remain a partner in the International Space Station at least until its own space station is up and running, a milestone that is not expected until 2028 at the earliest, according to a report.

There are facts and history about the space station.

Kathy Lueders said she spoke with Russian space officials after Borisov's announcement.

"We're not getting any indication that anything has changed," he said. She said the relationship between NASA and Roscosmos was business as usual.

The nation's invasion of Ukraine has resulted in the dissolution of many of Russia's other space partnerships. Russian rocket engines are no longer sold to American companies, and Russian-built Soyuz rockets are no longer flying out of Europe's Spaceport.

Borisov did not break new ground with this announcement. The nation's continued participation in the consortium was tied to the lifting of sanctions imposed on Russia as a result of theUkraine invasion. The sanctions are still in place.

The Russian Orbital Service Station, or ROSS, is the outpost that Russia is building. An interview with the flight director of the Russian segment of the International Space Station and the general designer of the main contractor for Russia's human spaceflight program was published on Tuesday.

A hasty pullout from the International Space Station would be a bad move for Russia, according to Solovyov.

"We need to keep operating the International Space Station until we create a more or less tangible backlog for ROSS," he said in the interview. The piece is in Russian, but it's not in English. It will be hard to restore what has been achieved if we stop manned flights for a long time.
