The four-time world champion is retiring at the end of the season.

He said the decision had been difficult and that he had spent a lot of time thinking about it.

At the end of the year, the German said he would take more time to reflect. He wants to spend more time with his family.

One of the most successful drivers of all time is going to be retiring from the sport.

Only Lewis Hamilton, Michael Schumacher and Juan Manual Fangio have won more world titles than the German.

It's not about saying goodbye today. It's not about saying thank you to the fans, it's about saying thank you to everybody.

"Although our results have not been as good as we had hoped, it is very clear to me that everything is being put," said the four-time drivers' title winner.

I hope that the work I did last year will be helpful in the development of a team that will win in the future, and I will work as hard as I can between now and the end of the year with that goal in mind.

There's more to come.
