The manager of a restaurant in Michigan said that tourists were rude to staff and that they decided to close early.
The Venetian festival has been held in Charlevoix for almost 100 years with music, sport, and a parade. Larah Moore, the general manager of East Park Tavern, said in a post that tourists were "arrogant" and "cocky" when they came to the town.
Moore shut the restaurant one hour earlier than usual on Saturday after talking with her staff.
She put a sign on the desk that said the kitchen was closed due to the treatment of the server.
Service and hospitality workers across the country have had to deal with rude customers since the Pandemic started, as well as slower service and rising prices due to inflation.
The problem at East Park Tavern seems to have been caused by rude, impatient, and rowdy customers, but in some other cases, customers have been violent to workers
Moore wrote that she was disappointed and embarrassed by the fudgies this year. The staff took a break. Last night was the straw that broke the camel's back. There were a lot of rude comments. They can throw money at us to get what they want. A lot of jerks.
Tens of thousands of people travel to Charlevoix every year for the festival. Moore told the outlet that many of her staff had been working 11-hour shifts that week, where they were being beaten down by the amount of people that were coming in.
She said that one of the restaurant's server ended up in the emergency room on Saturday night after her pump fell off because it was so hot.
Moore said in the post that his staff would not be treated like trash. We are not going to be treated badly. We will no longer tolerate that.
